  1. Metal is any of a class of chemical 
  2. elements with certain chemical 
  3. characteristics (metallic character) and 
  4. physical properties: they are good conductors 
  5. of heat and electricity, they are opaque but 
  6. reflect light well. The following are widely 
  7. used in commerce: precious metals: gold, 
  8. silver, mercury, and platinum, it is used
